Investing for Life Podcast – Robbie Robertson, Lead Partner, Deloitte Digital, Deloitte Australia

Series 1 Episode 7
Part of the series-and-episode Investing For Life

In the latest Investing for Life episode, host Douglas Isles interviews Robbie Robertson, Lead Partner at Deloitte Digital Sydney, Deloitte Australia.

With 23 years’ experience in London, New York, Singapore and throughout Southeast Asia, Robbie currently heads up a team of specialists helping clients connect with their customers through digitally-enabled experiences. He is also an Adjunct Professor of Design at Swinburne University of Technology and holds a deep passion for diversity and inclusion (D&I), leading the Deloitte Globe (LGBT+) network and sitting on the National D&I Council.

Listen to this conversation to:

- Hear Robbie’s honest reflection on his struggles growing up in a traditional boarding school in Scotland - wrestling with his homosexuality and the setback of glandular fever, which derailed his passion for sport and sense of self;
- Learn from his conviction to be his authentic self and the workplace discrimination setbacks he has faced on this journey;
- Be inspired by how he has nurtured his entrepreneurial spirit and successfully built several businesses throughout his career.

Robbie’s Investing for Life story is one that will encourage you to reflect on your own journey – how setbacks can become your strengths, and why embodying your authentic self can in fact help you stand out from the crowd and access opportunities only you can.

Investing for Life is hosted by Douglas Isles, Platinum Asset Management. If you would like to listen to Episode 1, where Douglas introduces the concept behind the Investing for Life podcast series, it can be accessed here

Investing professionally requires a long-term focus underpinned by a strong philosophy. At Platinum, three core principles underpin our investment approach: we look for companies that are facing temporary setbacks, investigate long-term change, and avoid the crowd. We believe these same three principles can also be applied to life and lead to better outcomes over the long run.

In this podcast series, Douglas explores each of these three principles with a variety of guests to discover the setbacks they have overcome, the changes they have made to improve their odds of achieving long-term happiness, and how they stand out from the crowd.
